The Remote Order Entry System (ROES) is a flexible, configurable application designed for SoftWorks Systems, Inc., and targeted to the professional photography industry. 9th St. Codewerx develops the studio components of ROES, comprising the Client, TemplateTool, Commentator, and Sealer, as well as the rendering engine of the ROES Stand Alone Rendering Server.
The ROES Client is the most complex of these applications, comprising several key components at its core:
- A powerful catalog engine which allows labs to express their products and services in a graphical way. Rules are implemented so product and service exclusions can be set up to ensure that the ordering capability matches what is possible at the lab. There are no iterations to correct service problems, because the user is guided into what is possible given their current order. User interface elements' size can be controlled, tooltips assigned, and inapplicable items can be disabled when necessary. Multiple types of pricing tiers and application of options to filtered sets of products in the order are possible.
- An intuitive cropping interface that allows users to manipulate images, lab products, and text in complex ways. Rather than simply displaying an image and drawing a crop like some applications, the ROES Client shows the product as large as possible, and lets the user fill the product with their images and text via intuitive drags, scrolls, and rotations. Matrix transformations in the cropping interface smoothly scale, translate, and rotate the images as necessary to show the user the output as it will appear, without disorienting sudden changes in appearance.
- A powerful rendering engine that supports images and text at any rotation and transparency. Transparency, drop shadows, masks, and stroked edges are all supported. The rendering engine output is independent of resolution, which ensures that products and output always look their best.
This flexibility allows a single web deployed application to service diverse customers worldwide, with updates stringently maintaining compatibility with any catalog version. It has been adopted by professional photography labs and studios worldwide since its inception and in conjunction with SoftWorks Systems' critical lab automation expertise, has become an industry leader.
